A key operating concept in the CCC organization
is that the station and the
Signal Point house/land are considered entirely separate.
What Is the "Station Committee" ?
The ownership entity that owns the house and land takes care of that end separately, as a traditional owner would. CCC "Facility Fees" help cover some of the variable costs of operation of the house. The ham station, however, is entirely CCC's. It is a club station in every sense of that term. This means that CCC as a club group is entirely responsible for the design, construction, funding, operation, and maintenance of the station. Costs of the station are partly deferred by the $75 station use fee charged to every member who uses the station during a week's rental. These fees go to PJ2T, not to the owner. The station is not the owner's responsibility, nor should the owner have control of all the design decisions for the station. Thus, a station committee has been formed as a sub-group within CCC, to perform those station functions.
Some of the responsibilities of the station committee, are listed below. (These are not in any special order whatsoever.)
- Create and maintain a complete inventory of all station gear and components, clearly delineate which are donated and which are on loan, and maintain that inventory in currency on the web.
- Provide for insurance, if it is deemed necessary and appropriate, for the station components. Figure out how to secure them when nobody is there.
- Construct an organizational mechanism to consult the full CCC membership on major station decisions.
- Meet (or communicate frequently and regularly) and report on the committee's activities by updating this and other Station Committee web pages.
- Arrange work trips to the island, involving committee members and other volunteers, to work on the station.
- Set up a set of safety rules and guidelines for everyone working on the station on site. Enforce these rules.
- Investigate the rentability or purchasability of land adjacent to Signal Point for more antennas.
- Contrive an emergency response plan in case of a natural disaster or catastrophic failure of a tower.
- Seek expanded corporate sponsorship.
- Who knows what else?? That's why it's a committee....
