Notes on Sliding Glass Doors

1 February 2018

Dorothy and I removed the east side north slider from the sunroom. Laid it on tables on patio and cut out the black track cleaner brush for about 3 inches, cleaned all, lubed, and verified proper operation of the leveling screws on both sides. Determined that removing the roller assembly would require taking off the side rail and knocking the wheel assembly out sideways. Need to determine the make and model of this door.

Dorothy and I removed the main shack slider from inside, lifting both sides and taking it out inward into the room. Cleaned up the black. Both wheels still work, but south one binds under weight. Could not remove the roller assemblies. W8WTS' advice is below.

From W8WTS 2 Feb 2018:

Since you can get the door out of the track, the whole process should be
pretty easy.

1. Put the door on the floor with the stile on the ground and prop it up
with some chairs so that it does not fall over.
2. Take out the two rusty Phillips screws that hold the stile to the top and
bottom rails.
3. Tap on the stile from below with a wood block so that the stile goes
upward and comes off the two rails and the glass.  This sounds scary but it
is not a big deal.
4. This will expose the flat head screw that holds the leveler to the bottom
rail.  Remove that screw.  The leveler then slides out of the rail and can
be replaced.
5. Tap the stile back on the glass so that it engages the top and bottom
rails and put the two rusty Phillips screws back.
6. If the gasket fell out of the stile, you can push it back in.  If it
gives you trouble, wet the gasket with some water so that it pushes easier.

7. Flip the door over and do the other side.

Hopefully one of the replacement levelers that you brought will fit.  Even
if not, once you get the old levers out you can probably rehab them and get
the leveling screws re-engaged in the nuts.  That with a good cleaning and
lube will probably keep the old ones going for a time.
