Notes on AL-1200 (4) Linear

Bought June 19, 2011, by W0CG from K7WM, Cibola, AZ.

K7WM obtained it from an estate sale; prior owner used it very little. Seller reports that blower may not be working.

Currently at K7WM awaiting check to clear, then will be transported to K6AM for technical assessment.

2 July 2011

Delivered to K6AM in San Diego by K7WM. Checks out perfectly, full output. Used as 40 meter SSB amp in IARU at W1AW/6 with great result. K6AM reverse engineered this schematic

30 July 2011

Delivered in Idaho at W0CG address by Fed Ex. All appears to be intact. Did not test. Transformer will be taken to Curacao by John Shovic in late September. He will bring back the white case empty and W0CG will take the RF deck in October.

28 September 2011

Transformer taken to Curacao by John Shovic. NAfl 57 duty charged.

19 October 2011

RF deck taken to Curacao by W0CG. No  duty charged because piece arrived late and porter brought it out.

5 November 2011

RF test after transportation showed cold filament. Troubleshooting now to be sure tube is open. Tube pitched and replaced with pulled tube that was removed from service in November, 2004. Full RF output. Amp performed great at Station 2 in CQWW CW at 80 and 10 meter station, and in 10 meter contest as the CW station.

18 October 2014

Continues in service at Station 2.

31 March 2015

Removed from Station 2 to storage after perfect service in Fall 2014 - Winter 2015 contest season.

27 November 2017

Removed from service just prior to CQWW CW 2017 with popping noises very frequently. Found one HV cap burned and bubbling fluid. This date W0CG, W8WTS and K1YC (Lou) installed the new HV assembly bought in 2011. All good and amp put in storage in EBR left closet. The HV board that was removed from here has a big cap on it which we tried, but this did not work and now most of the caps on that board are fried.

20 February 2018

Removed from closet and placed in service at Station 1 by W0CG as part of normal rotation. Works OK.
