Notes on AL-1200 (3) Linear

Bought December 3, 2009 by K8ND from K8NU, Columbus, Ohio.

It was bought new from HRO in 2005, used little since then.

Currently at K8ND awaiting HV modification and transport to Curacao.

Transferred to K8LEE on 5 October 2010 for transportation to Curacao.

25 October 2010

Transported to Curacao with tube and transformer by K8LEE. No duty.

3 November 2010

W0CG moved brown wire from Lug 1 to Lug 2 for 220-239 volt tap. Moved brown wire from Lug 4 to Lug 5 for "High" fan speed. Tube in this amp is SN WCQ-0003. CCC tube number 34. Placed in service at Station 2 and works fine. Made tune-up cards and taped on front panel controls (W0CG). | Photo 1 | Photo 2 | Photo 3 |  | Photo 4 | Photo 5 | Photo 6 | Photo 7 |

13 January 2010

K8LEE ordered caps and resistors to upgrade HV power supplies. He will bring to the island in February. Click here for that Digi-Key order.

24 October 2013

K8LEE took out this tube saying it was running very hot and making spurious emissions. He replaced it with "new tube from the tunnel from a "K8ND" box. The tube he removed is in the box where the new one came from.

17 July 2022

Smoking and hum on CW in WPX CW. Opened this date and observed big arcing on HV board. One cap was visibly exploded. Removed all electrolytics, checked resistors, all good at 50K each. Put in eight new exact replacement caps (the short ones) new from 2016, replaced line fuses, all seems OK now. Placed into service at Station 1, with DL8OBQ running QSOs.

26 September 2023

K8ND reports inop on 40 meters -- will not tune at all. No response to Tune and Load controls.

2 November 2023

We will not at present try to fix this, as it will never be in contest service on 40 at Station.
