History

Bought from W8ZEP estate via K8MFO for $1400, 9 June 2003.

Installed INRAD "FT-1000 Background Noise Reduction, Sensitivity Improvement Modification." This adds one piggyback board to the IF board. Tested OK after installation -- W0CG.

9 July 2003

Transported to Curacao by W0CG.

28 Nov 2004

Output port "A" dead, noted in September 2004. Also, the amp relay was sticking during CQWW CW 2004. Problem seemed to go away about a week later. Never reappeared.

INRAD roofing filter added by W8TK.

9 Sept 2005

Installed K9AN AF filter mod and repaired dead antenna Port "A" (W0CG) by adding jumper
across broken PC board trace.

October 26 2006

K6AM determined that main RX was about 15 to 20 dB desensitized. W0CG confirmed this. Returned to States 2 Nov 2006 by W0CG, holding it until there is a spare shipping case available in December 2006.

November 2006

Shipped to W6XA by W0CG. Repaired as with MP (1) -- bad roofing filter.

13 February 2007

Returned to Curacao by N1ZZ after direct shipment from W6XA. Transceiver is still inop in transmit. Tries to go key down, but no power output in any mode, no sidetone audio whatsoever.

19 March 2007

Troubleshooting today was unsuccessful. Found white wire at J3004 crimped and unstuck it, and found wire of mod at C2032 unsoldered and fixed it, but still no transmit. Tried all standard techniques. Packed to ship to W6XA with cover letter this date. Will send back with someone from WPX crew.

7 April 2007

Brought back to U.S. by W0CG and shipped to W6XA. Repaired by finding an unplugged IF cable and returned to W0CG 4 May 2007. Tests good in W0CG shack. Display invoice.

19 October 2007

Returned to Curacao by W0CG.Worked perfectly at Station # 1 in CQWW SSB.

2 December 2008

Sent back to States with KU8E to be shipped to WA4GEG. Numerous segments on the display are inop. WA4GEG says that parts might not be available. All other aspects of operation are excellent.

24 March 2009

Returned to Curacao by N4RV after WA4GEG repair. Placed in service 26 March 2009. Works fine.

18 July 2009

Tested good. Installed at Station # 2 following evaluation of FT-2000.

Main RX sensitivity 20 dB down on 40 meters.

24 October 2010

Main RX sensitivity still down 20 dB on 40 meters.

5 March 2013

K8LEE and K6AM performed XCVR triage of all radios. Found that this XCVR had good output power all bands but RX totally dead.

12 March 2013

WA8OSS (Jim Dukarich) took XCVR to Arizona for further shipment to K8LEE.

29 March 2013

Received UPS at K8LEE, shipped from Arizona by Jim Dukarich. K8LEE will take it to Jerry for possible repair.

May 2013

Transceiver was badly dented in front panel when received at Jerry's. It is deemed unrepairable and will be retained at Jerry's as a parts source for other transceivers. Decommissioned.
