Notes on W8TK FT-1000 MP #1

History

SN 8J330156

November 2004

Received complaints about key clicks during CQWW CW.

October 26 2006

K6AM determined that main RX was about 15 to 20 dB desensitized. I agreed. W4PA took it to States and confirmed this at Ten-Tec. It is presently at W6XA for repair.

January 2007

Radio repair complete. Bad roofing filter. Click here for repair invoice. Key click mod installed. Roofing filter replaced. Shipped to W8WTS on 20 January for transportation to Curacao on 22 Jan 2007.

February 2007

Radio performed perfectly in ARRL CW 2007.

October 2007

Moved to storage closet to give FT-1000 (4) a workout in CQWW SSB.

October 2008

Main RX dead at CQWW SSB. Brought to States by W1MD and shipped to WA4GEG.

November 2008

Repaired by WA4GEG. Click here for repair invoice. Considerable on-board corrosion damaged was found and board-level components replaced. Returned to Curacao by N5OT November 28 2008. In service at Station # 1. Display is difficult to read except from head on, but WA4GEG said he saw the same thing and has no fix for it. Yaesu is no longer supplying these display modules.

26 March 2009

Removed from service at Station # 1 (it works, but requires head on look at display) and put into closet. FT-1000(4) put in service at Station # 1.

18 July 2009

Tested good. Bagged in Ziploc bag with desiccant.

17 September 2010

Placed in service at Station # 3.

February 2013

Placed in service at Station 3 just prior to ARRL DX CW. Appeared to work fine except for requirement to view display head-on.

5 March 2013

K8LEE and K6AM performed XCVR triage of all radios. Found that this XCVR RX sensitivity is down 6 dB on all bands and 20 dB down on 15 meters.

6 December 2016

Functionality check by W0CG shows all good, but I did not do the above mentioned sensitivity checks. (Display must be viewed head-on.)
