Setup of Audio for SSB Soundcard 2 March 2005, W0CG; Revised 24 Oct 2005 The cabling for Writelog audio is already installed, permanently, at Stations # 1 and # 2, complete with the proper audio isolation transformer. You'll find these cables on the table ending just to the left and slightly behind the front panel of each FT-1000, with labels and ferrites. 1. Plug lines from XCVR into PC Mic In (yellow on Compaq) and Headphones Out (orange on Compaq). 2. Start Writelog and select Setup, Ports, DVK Type, and click "Windows Sound Board." On that same panel, be sure "WAV File Locate" button points to "/Programs." 3. Bring up the Windows Volume Control and eliminate all but: Playback: "Wave, "Microphone," and "Volume Control." Record: "Recording Control" amd "Microphone." ("Voice Commands" don't matter.) 4. Bring up the Writelog Sound Board Mixer Control and be sure ESS is selected in all four boxes for mixer and that Transmit Audio Level is checked "Active" on left and right. Also, be sure that Mic Level is checked active. (Msg play level will NOT be checked as active. 5. Go to Writelog, Tools, Sound Board Options, and check "Echo Microphone" and nothing else. NOTES: In the Writelog Mixer Control, center panel, "Msg Play Level" controls the level of .WAV playback files, and "MIC Level" controls microphone level from the Heil. PROCEDURE FOR SETTING AUDIO LEVELS: 1. Plug Heil into radio (not the sound card). 2. Select "MIC" on the FT-1000 meter and set for full scale deflection with Processor off. 3. Turn on processor, set "COMP" on FT-1000 meter and adjust for about 5 dB of compression. 4. Then connect Heil to the sound card cables, and on Writelog Mixer Control, center panel, set "MIC Level" to get the same 5 dB of compression. Finally, set "Msg Play Level" to match that level when messages are played. ========================================== Writelog.ini relevant section should look like this: [WlSound] Compression=0 LeftFader=0 RightFader=0 ContinuousRecord=0 EnableRecordingLoop=0 PauseRecordingDuringXmit=0 LineInIndexOverride=2 ==========================================
